Traveling in 2021: “workation” - a lifestyle that combines work and vacation

Workation ("work" + "vacation") as a concept and style of work is gaining popularity every day. Over the past year, many have become accustomed to working remotely. Most of the employees who can work remotely have moved to places where it is convenient to live and relax. The traditional way of working has also radically changed, be it in person or on a sales trip. There seems to be no better moment in history to hone the art of combining business tops and pajama bottoms.

"Workation" has its origins in 2012 as a new way to motivate employees, as well as a classic approach to business both in Europe and in Russia. With the onset of the pandemic, the "Workation" trend has become even more relevant when everyone is forced to stay at home and work remotely. However, this applies not only to work, almost all educational institutions have switched to distance learning, which makes it an excellent opportunity not to miss online lectures or meetings and, for example, enjoy a delicious cocktail on one of the islands of the Maldives archipelago. Isn't it ideal to combine not only work and leisure, but also business with pleasure? By the way, the sea relaxes and definitely gives energy. How do you like this option: the sea, a comfortable chair, a computer with a high-speed Internet connection?

Oddly enough, most people work more efficiently when traveling than at home or in the office. Not everyone feels the pleasure of sitting at the computer all day in the same place, seeing the same faces, and adopting a businesslike image at the sight of their superiors.

What is the financial side of this fascinating story?

It all depends on the country of relocation, conditions, time frame and leisure time.

Long-term rentals are usually 30-50% cheaper than daily rentals. In order to save money, instead of a separate house, you can stay in an apartment or rent a room in a coworking space. The concept of working from home, widespread in large companies, was transformed during the pandemic into working from a hotel. Hotels offer freelancers and remote workers comfortable rooms for long-term rentals. Some hotel chains have launched subscription accommodation: with a monthly payment of $ 1,000 to $ 2,500, the guest is given the opportunity to stay at any hotel of the chain.

You can endlessly list the advantages of this trend, but does it have any disadvantages? The most important thing is not to get a taste, and do not forget that, while on vacation, we also actively work, meet with colleagues at online meetings, report to our superiors, and in the end we get paid for this.
